To prepare for the Essay Writing section, use the sample topics previously listed or the actual questions listed in the Information Bulletin. Practice writing an essay in 30 minutes. This is the amount of time you will have to read the question, think about the topic, plan of attack: 0
Number one: Read the question carefully. 0
a.Put a line under the main topic .0
b. Put a line under ( or notice ) the main words that tell you what you need to write.0
The following verbs are important: discuss, explain, state, describe, support, compare, and contrast.0
c. Put a mark or number by each part of the question that you must address in your essay. There could be as many
as six parts to a question. For example, note the following question: 0
Some people believe that it is better to attend a large university or college. Others prefer a small campus. Discuss the asvantages and disadvantages of each. Which do you prefer, and why?0
This question has six parts. To fully answer this question, your essay must include: 0
Asvantages of a large university
Disadvantages of a large university
Advantages of a small campus
Disadvantages of a small campus
Your preference
Why (reasons for your preference)
In addition, always support your ideas with specific examples, even if the essay question doesn't specifically ask you to do so.0

Make brief notes of the examples you want to write about or the opinions you are giving. 0

[[Number Four: Check back to the words you underlined in the topic. Do you have an answer, example, or opinion for each part of the question?0
[[Number Five: Begin writing. Begin with a clear statement that answers the main question. Give details and specific examples to support your opinion. Write clearly so that your papare can be read easily. End with a summary statement that reinforces your point of view. Remember that the readers fo not know what you are thinking. You must make everything clear to them.0
[Number Six: Check over your writing briefly to be sure that it is clear and that it answers the
