It is my sense that people inadvertently have the tendency to pull back in their shell and circle the wagons whenever criticism shots, warranted or otherwise, start to land close to home.! So it's natural for one to cover the home base first and then stretch their defenses as far outward as they feel comfortable.! Sadly though and I am not really surprised, it seems that the intellectual umbilical cord to our collective thought process as Arab people for the most part is still to varying degrees anchored deep into our local environment and strongly tied to the manifestations of entrenched political systems and regimes despite all the facade that sugar coats our usual talk of Arab unity and one Arab people. It becomes sometimes hopelessly pointless to engage in what otherwise should be an intelligent and an unbiased debate. In the end though, I think we are all discussing the same good'ol half empty-half full glass... some chose to address the empty half while others indulge themselves in the full half. Having said that, what we should keep in mind at all times however is that focusing on the negative side of things, as some chose to do, is not necessarily a bad thing if the intention is to promote a constructive dialog and demand improvement and not simply ridicule others and undermine their arguments. I quite honestly happen to learn more from contrarians with opposing standpoint than I do from mindlike with similar views. Unfortunately, our occasional urge to resist listening to different opinions, respect opposite point of view, and coping with divergent views can prove detrimental to the advance of our societies and lead eventually to stagnation of ideas.! Furthermore, it will servely impair and diminish our ability to think critically or logically or rationally. Thank you and I apologize for my input was in English rather than in Arabic... Which I purposely joined WATA, among other things, to improve my mastering of my Arabic language.! I was somewhat disappointed reading some of the responses in this thread and I don't think banning people is the answer either.
